The premise places you in command of a desperate group of survivors attempting to drive a trusty station wagon across a ruined, zombie-infested United States to reach a safe zone on the West Coast. Much like its historical inspiration, success requires careful balancing of fuel, ammunition, spare parts, food, and medicine.
As you travel from landmark to landmark, your party members will face randomized hazards—ranging from dysentery and broken axles to sudden zombie ambushes. Interspersed between text-driven survival prompts are active gameplay segments: you must scavenge abandoned buildings for supplies in top-down shooter sequences, fend off attacks while driving, or hunt wildlife to keep your team from starving. The PlayStation Vita version packages the base experience together with the Endless Expansion DLC, adding new cars, job classes, modifiers, and persistent progression elements.
