Soul Sacrifice is a dark fantasy action-RPG developed by Marvelous AQL (comprising subsidiary studio Comcept) and published by Sony Computer Entertainment exclusively for the PlayStation Vita. The narrative is framed through the eyes of a nameless captive imprisoned in the subterranean lair of a powerful, twisted sorcerer named Magus. Facing imminent execution, the prisoner discovers a sentient, talking grimoire that chronicles the memories of a veteran sorcerer, allowing the player to experience past battles through projection.
The core gameplay centers on arena-based cooperative and solo hunting missions against grotesque, mythologically-inspired monsters born from human greed and sin. Unlike traditional action games, combat revolves around turning your own body parts, flora, and fauna into powerful offerings and spells. The defining gameplay pillar is the Sacrifice or Save mechanic: after defeating foes or reviving fallen allies, you must instantly choose whether to sacrifice them for raw, devastating power or save them to heal and bolster your defense, permanently shaping your character's physical transformation and magical alignment.

The Moral Dilemma (Save or Sacrifice): Decide the fate of defeated bosses and allies, shifting your sorcerer's attributes toward holy salvation or demonic corruption.
Offerings as Magic: Equip a customizable loadout of magical offerings—ranging from elemental swords and explosive rocks to armor and healing fruits—that degrade with use and require replenishment.
Devastating Black Rites: Unleash forbidden magic in times of dire need, sacrificing parts of your own body (such as turning your arm into a giant stone golem or summoning a skeleton storm) at the cost of severe, permanent stat debuffs until cleansed.
Intense Multiplayer Hunting: Team up with up to four players via ad-hoc or online matchmaking to take down towering boss monsters together.
Atmospheric Lore & Soundtrack: Immerse yourself in a bleak, grimdark aesthetic accompanied by a sweeping, memorable orchestral score composed by Yasunori Mitsuda and Keiji Inafune's creative direction.
A: Offerings have limited uses per mission. Once you exhaust a spell's charges, it breaks, rendering it useless until you restock your loadout from your camp inventory using lacrima collected during quests.
A: Black Rites grant overwhelming, game-saving power during critical moments, but they leave your character heavily crippled (such as halving your defense or severely reducing movement speed) until you spend rare in-game currency to wipe the curse away.
A: Soul Sacrifice Delta is an expanded, definitive version of the game released later in the Vita's lifespan, adding new factions, spells, monsters, and story chapters. However, the original game remains a standalone milestone.
A: Yes, Soul Sacrifice received a major physical retail release on PlayStation Vita cartridges worldwide, backed by extensive marketing from Sony during the handheld's early years.
