Attack on Titan 2 (Japanese: 進撃の巨人2) is a hack-and-slash action game based on Hajime Isayama’s popular manga and anime series. Developed by Omega Force (known for the Dynasty Warriors franchise) and published by Koei Tecmo, it launched in Japan on March 15, 2018, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo Switch, and Steam, with a worldwide release shortly after on most platforms. The PlayStation Vita version was released simultaneously in Japan.
The game improves significantly on the first entry. Combat centers on the Omni-Directional Mobility (ODM) Gear, allowing fluid aerial movement, wall-running, and precise nape strikes. Titans are more aggressive and intelligent, with improved AI and animations that better match the source material. A new “Danger Zone” system heightens tension when Titans become especially aggressive. Players can create a custom Scout Regiment soldier who participates in the main story alongside familiar characters such as Eren, Mikasa, Levi, and many others.
Story mode covers the events of the first two seasons of the anime (roughly the first 50 chapters of the manga) and includes original scenarios overseen by the series creator. Outside of combat, a “Daily Life” mode lets players interact with and build relationships with the large cast, unlocking buddy actions, skills, and additional events. Online multiplayer supports co-op and competitive modes for up to 8 players. A later DLC expansion, “Final Battle,” continued the story further on other platforms.
